Editorial #4 WAR!

FORT SUMTER at CHARLESTOWN,S.C. It is done.  It has come.  War is ripping our beloved country into two seething halves of anger, suspicion, and violence.  On the morning of April 12th, General P.T. Beauregard’s batteries opened fire on the Federal troops stationed inside the main fort guarding the entrance to Charleston’s lifeblood – her harbor.  Why?  President Lincoln would not back down and withdraw the troops from the harbor; instead, he decided to resupply them.  South Carolina could not live with “enemy” troops pointed like a dagger at her throat.  The cannons roared, calling a country to battle.  Every American must decide.  Secessionist or Unionist?  Slaver or Abolitionist?  Federal or Confederate?  True Blue or Proud Gray?  Who will you fight for?  Cry for?  Bleed for?  As for this paper, we will never cease to do all that is within our power to preserve the integrity of one of the greatest nations on earth.  With some reluctance, but with eternal resolve, we support President Lincoln’s decision to call for volunteers to join the Federal army, and to FORCIBLY return the miscreant southern prodigals to the UNITED States of America.  UNION FOREVER!

  1. This is what our country has come to. My people have elected me to be their leader. I would've preferred to not be the President of the Confederate States of America. I will do everything in my power to lead my people to victory and the rights we want. We are the underdog my people. Rise up and lets defeat the bully together!

  2. It is up to the people on what side they choose now that this war has come. (I believe this is insane militia is moving me and I have to fight in this war I don't know what part I am fighting in and what role I am playing. I will fight for what I believe for and I just want freedom and for all of this to be over. All of this needs to end after this war and people will die and I will cry for some. I will lead everyone to victory for the rights we want. I will bleed and I will fight wherever the militia takes me.)

  3. I believe President Lincoln made the right decision. We can't just back down when it comes to war. Although this war may be a struggle, how can there be progress without struggle. I am proud to be an abolishionist because of how slaves are treated. We need to stop slavery forever. Even if it means war.

  4. I have decided to leave turn down President Lincoln's offer at being commander of the union army, leave the marines and return to my home state of Virginia. I was appointed commander in chief of the military and navel forces by Governor John Letcher. Virginia's troops were transferred to the confederate service and I became full general the highest rank then authorized. Now I had the troops an ammunition to defend the state I grew up in.

  5. It's good that the Union standing together to fight for what we believe in and we should all pull our resources and stand as one.

  6. Lincoln has made the right decision. We have worked so hard to end slavery and now we finally have a chance to do it. War although it is a struggle, we Unionist must not back down and fight! Frederick is right how will there be progress without any struggle. I for instance have died for a cause I so strongly believed in. Progress is being made and we will end slavery by beating the south!

  7. Secessionist! We want slaves. They are not worth fighting for, this whole war is unneeded. Let us live our lives in peace and we could rebuild our great nation. Slaves are only property, not people. We don't go around starting wars over houses or chairs! Shows how ridiculous this war really is.

  8. War has come. If war is to stay, slavery shall end. Secondly, the war will pass and the country needs to be together, as extreme as it is far from that. I put my life and whole kit and caboodle to Abe Lincoln to end slavery and keep the land god gave us peaceful and beautiful for the future. I have help slaved for a while and what I can do now is support the union. Edward A Pollard is an example of a southerner, or torturer to human slaves. His side of the map has split the nation from good and bad.

  9. Us southerners will fight for our property rights! If we stayed any longer in the union, it was definite that our rights would be torn away from us along with slavery. (I have only come to the Confederate States of America to fetch information for our union, assigned to me by General Winfield Scott. I have been captured and questioned many times but I am still alive. I believe that President Lincoln has chosen the right decision. If war is the only way we can end slavery and fix this broken union, we have to fight back to accomplish these plans. Through my spy services, I will continue to support the union to end slavery once and for all.)

  10. "The conflict is one thing I've been waiting for. I'm well and strong and young, young enough to go to the front. If I can't be a soldier, I'll help soldiers." Although I am an abolitionist, I will deliver aid to soldiers of both the Union and the Confederacy. The boss decision would be to establish a way to identify missing soldiers and those who are killed in action. I believe we are still at sea with the consequences and the only way for us to understand is to see the elephant.

  11. I have to agree with President Lincoln on this one. We have to stand as one in our nation's time of need. I will join the Union Army. I am now serving as a as an acting assistant surgeon and the first female surgeon in the US Army. As an unpaid volunteer,I am working in the US Patent Office Hospital in Washington. All these "slavers" as this paper calls it, need to stop all the madness. Don't they understand that what they are doing is cruel and inhumane? We abolitionists need to fight, and that is what we plan to do.

  12. Confederacy for the win! I have left my wife in Mississippi to head more into the south to fight for the good cause. The Confederacy has the correct opinion on slavery. Abolitionists are taking this too far but I am ready to fight for the cause.
(Lincoln made a good choice resupplying the troops in South Carolina. I believe in the Union's cause not the Confederacy's. The South has all the wrong opinions. The only way this argument will end is with war. There will be no agreement. One side will win and I truly believe that the winnint side is the Union)

  13. I believe this war would have never happened if the weren't such thing as abolitionists! Abraham Lincoln should not do anything to end this thing. Slavery plays a huge part in this war and if we cant fight for it to stay then i don't know what to do. All i can say is true southerners should fight until slavery will be a permanent thing to the world. Slavery needs to stay and im just so darn over all these abolitionists trying to stop it!

  14. Here in atlanta the town has not ben doing very well. Today a shell came through Mama's room directly after we went to bed and fell on the little bed and I expect if we had been sleeping there some of us would have ben hurt. The next mourning I thought the hole town would be torn up. The cannons were so near and so loud but we soon found out that it was our guns so we have ben very well content all day. We have had less shells to day tan we have had in a week.

  15. I disagree strongly with this decision. I joined the grays so I could protect the execution of John Brown. I stand by my decision. Im upset that Maryland cannot fight for the south purley because of how threatened Lincoln would be without our protection. Aside from all the agrivation of this war I will continue to act in plays across the country, and I hope you will come watch.

  16. Why is the north fighting back? Slavery is going to take over the nation. All these abolitionists should stop fighting and give up. They're making this country falling apart.
(We abolitionists should keep going! We need to stay as one in our nations time of need. The southerners are all goners.)

  18. look at Abraham Lincoln, He resupplied the harbor just so more people could die on both sides north and south. So does this mean he wants his own people to die i'm totally balled up about his decision and if he reads this I would love to Know why you WANT people to die. Pretty much a lot of the people at the harbor are goners on both sides if Lincoln keeps on resupplying the harbor. Tell me how many countless lives have to be loss in this war.

  20. I can't say any other option than for to start the war, because I know of none. But I do know that this is when I decide to enlist. I feel strongly to serve my country, even if it means putting my life on the line. I followed the orders of Commander Adelbert Ames. During the Battle of Fredricksburg, I was commanded to lead the retreat from the heights after I was placed in command of my regiment. By 1862, I entered the war as Lieutenant Colonel.

  21. If the confederates want war, so be it. We unionists will not back down, not give in, we will stand and fight to reunite this wounded country, broken at the hands of these savage rebels.

  22. Its like Lincoln is encouraging the war, like he wants Americans to die from both the north and south. Why not pull the troops out save lives.

  23. I guess it has begun. I am forced to fight against these uneducated, farming buffoons from the south who couldn't tell the difference between a rake and an ox! I am very confident that my men will defeat them. We clearly have the advantage by out numbering them, out gunning them, (gun quality) and the fact that we have a proper education unlike these homeschooled farm boys! It's on!

  25. We must fight for justice and never give up our people's rights. Crush these puny rebels and we shall have victory. It will most likely only take about 90 days.
(The confederacy is much more passionate about their way of life and there is no way the union could defeat us. Our ships are superior and so is our leadership;. It is impossible for our dominance to be contested we are the true Americans.

  26. War is war you cannot give your enemy any hope of victory. .i can't believe the southerners are challenging us. They have no chance at beating us.This war will be over in the upcoming months .Fight for the Union, conserve this nation that has been spilt.we will demolish the confederate army.Join us and fight for what you believe in.Free the slaves.

  27. Lincoln has done the right thing. We have been trying and trying to abolish slavery and this is now our chance. We need to defeat the south so we can then end it. We now need to go out and fight them and defeat them! We will finally get what we want although war is a hard and sad time we must do this because it is right.

  29. I don"t think ill be able to stay neutral in this war much longer. The south needs troops. I really don't want to leave my two sons they're my everything. But the time is coming. I just wish this war never started. Hopefully it ends soon.
